Troop 171 is a scouting group based in Monroe, North Carolina. Scout leaders including Jack Nelson, Gordon Gallagher, and Doug Lathan are founding members of the troop and continue to show enjoyment and passion for helping our scouts grow and learn. Camping trips, merit badge classes, and day outings are some of the many exciting activities the troop engages in.

Lake WatereeOn November 4, the troop went on an outing to Lake Wateree. Scouts enjoyed the relatively warm weekend by swimming in the surprisingly warm lake water, cooking meals together, soaking up the sun's rays, and overall having a fun-fueled trip. An unexpected rainstorm interrupted the outdoor freedom during the evening, however. The sunset and moderately well-tempered weather allowed for an enjoying two-day outing for many of the scouts and leaders.

Solar EclipseOn August 22, the group ventured out to Clinton, South Carolina to enjoy the viewing of the rare solar eclipse. Scouts received eclipse glasses in order to observe the eclipse without damaging their eyes. Snacks, drinks, games, and good people made the experience a spectacular one.

Camp RubyOn September 24, the troop enjoyed a pleasant outing in Ruby, South Carolina, dubbed "Camp Ruby". A fish-full pond surrounded by farmland, tree patches, and open space makes for a great camping spot. Scouts took advantage of the hot weather by swimming in the pond and enjoying blow-ups. Fishing, fire-making, cooking, and many other activities also made up the campout. With some good food, lots of fun in the water and out of the water, the trip was another success. A troop favorite by far.
